Bodywork Description
Rolfing® - Structural Integration is a system of hands-on body manipulation and movement explorations to help align the body within gravity. It focuses on the fascia (connective tissue) but involves the whole body. Rolfing can significantly improve mental and physical well-being and train body awareness and perception. It can offer a transformative process to discover more rest, lightness and energy in the body.
Rolfing is named after the US-American biochemist Dr. Ida Rolf (1896 – 1979), who developed Rolfing Structural Integration in the middle of the 20th century in the US. Ida drew inspiration from homeopathy, osteopathy, chiropractic, yoga, Alexander Technique, and Korzybski’s work on states of consciousness.
The Rolfing process is typically designed in a series of 10 sessions, each session dedicated to a different area or functional connection in the body. It is also possible to go through a shorter process or meet for single sessions. I always develop a strategy for each session that fits best to the situation and desires of the person. My practices as a dancer, choreographer and hands-on bodyworker continuously inform and inspire one another. I view a session as a creative dialogue making space for experience, movement and connections.
Bio / Artistic Background
SUSANNE GRAU works as a dancer, performer, choreographer, and Rolfing practitioner, currently based in Berlin. Across projects she explores relationships of language, body, imagination and rhythm. She likes to see performative practice as a facilitation of encounters and as a psychomagical field of experimentation. She gives weekly dance and improvisation classes for children and teenagers living in refugee housing centers in Berlin. Since 2023 she has been a certified practitioner of Rolfing® - Structural Integration - a hands-on myofascial bodywork. She studied Contemporary Dance at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne, the MA program Performing Arts Practice and Visual Culture (Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha and Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid), and the MA New Performative Practices at the University of the Arts in Stockholm. Her teaching, bodywork, and artistic practice as a dancer, performer, and choreographer continuously inform and inspire each other.
